Latin American, Caribbean and Iberian Studies (LACIS) at Univ. Wisconsin-Madison , with Willie Ney's efforts, has helped to organize a number of US speaking tours for Dr. Almendares.

Third Unitarian Church in Chicago, through its Social Action committee, works to support Dr. Almendares' projects in Honduras.

International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims (IRCT) is the supporting organization for many national centers for victims of torture, including CPTRT in Honduras.

Center for Health and the Global Environment at Harvard periodically sponsors visits to the USA by Dr. Almendares, in connection with the Center's activities on the Precautionary Principle and ecological concerns.

Casa Alianza in Latin America and Honduras is an effective leading advocate for the homeless children and prisoners' rights.

Friends of the Earth International is the organization within which a new Honduran environmental group, Tierra Madre, and Dr. Almendares work.

Global Exchange is an international human rights organization with an expansive program that has included assistance to Honduras and Dr. Almendares.

New York Open Center is New York's leading center for holistic learning and environmental reflection, frequently has had Dr. Juan Almendares conduct lectures on topics ranging from Honduran herbal medicine to ecological crises in Central America.

Dr. Almendares has worked periodically with Michael Pertschuk, J.D., author, consumer advocate and former chair of the US Federal Trade Commission, on Latin American activities attempting to combat and counter the world-wide problem of tobacco and disease.
